This is the new look of our breakfast menu designed by Carina. Only change is that I am going to add a Spanish translation for the Hispanic people to enjoy. . Business is booming for a business open for only 5 days and way more than I expected to do. We have most of the kinks ironed out and hiring staff every day. They don't work out they get the boot and we hire someone else to take their place fast. I am not determined to get the place up to handle maximum as quickly as possible. . We had our busiest day ever (Heh, only out of 5 so far) last night and some guys bought a whole bottle in shots of Patrone Tequilla. . I need some people who can work. . Back to work, have a full house already. . Hasta Pronto

Restaurant is OPEN

Ok folks, opening a restaurant before it is ready to appease the owner of the hotel just sucks.

.

While hoping for a soft opening to ease through the difficulties was my dream it wasn't my reality.

.

First day open we served about 45 meals. Today I think I served that many breakfasts and at noon I was exhausted beyond belief.

.

First day the Stove blew up in Doris face. He got a inexpensive haircut which he needed but didn't want. Next night we had a guy here till 2:30 in the AM fixing or maybe rebuilding it. Come to find out that the stove guy was familiar with our stove and he said it hasn't worked in 10 years. Live and learn. Cost a little over 200 dollars so not so bad.

.

Today I had a bunch of Dopes ordering 10 things and changing 10 times. They will get their first lesson in civility tomorrow when I take no substitutes in anything from them. Boohoo if they don't come back.

.

Maybe tomorrow will be an easier day. We had a new chef start today and he is great! Dori the pessimist even liked him. Real good cook and worker. Hot dog, he even knew a bunch of my customers and asked to go out and great several which was fine with me.

.

I hope to have the lights installed today and hope to get more stuff complete. I don't have time for anything now because we turned out to be terribly understaffed with 8 people working now. Never thought I would do so much business in the slow season as we are doing in our first week. Yuk this will take some getting use to but I will I guess.

.

Hasta Pronto!

PS>How about the new logo?

Yesterday was Dori's birthday and we had a few people over for a surprise cake. The cake said Happy 65 th Birthday Doris. Hey, we still have a sense of humor after trying to open a restaurant here in the DR.
.
I was supposed to pick up the cushions for the chairs and barstools yesterday afternoon. Needless to say I was busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger all day so I was putting it off until today.
.
I got a call at 7pm while I was still at the restaurant and the woman said they didn't have enough of the fabric. Man how low class can you be? Here when you do business with Dominicans for a large part of what you need they are completely untrustworthy and in addition they honestly can't understand why doing business like a complete ass is not appreciated. They lie and lie. Imagine if you gave someone a few days notice if there wasn't enough fabric to do a job that was ordered 2.5 weeks earlier?
.
I went there today and explained that I am opening the restaurant tomorrow and what am I to do for chairs? They just give you a stupid look with a complete absense of any feeling in their face.
.
Why are my people such asses?
.
Today when we were doing the food prep and trying to get the Chocolate Cake done the oven blew up and took a bunch of Dori's hair with it. He needed a haircut anywho so the guy is coming tomorrow to fix the thing and in time to still cook the cake for dinner.
.
Ok, so I am bitching a lot but YOU try to do business here with my fellow countrymen!
.
Oh, the guy that built the storefront in the rear of the restaurant came in to finally get paid. I asked where my price was for the second storefront so I can air condition the place and he tells me tomorrow. I say to this JERK you told me that 2 weeks ago. He babbles some crap in Spanish I don't even have any understanding of so I tell him Manana in what year? He gives me this hurt look like I am doing the wrong thing.
.
Don't do business with Double Hache for windows and doors. Unreliable and just a plain pain in the ASS. More of my fellow countrymen who couldn't find their own asses with two hands and a freakin road map! People ask me why I drink. I need to drink to deal with my people thats why!
.
Ok I am REALLY finished bitching now! Ah don't let me get started on the menus... Nah aint gonna do it.
This is how the place looks from the back to the front. Not too shabby huh? Notice the lack of seat cushions!
.
Hey I had the guy in that is trimming out the bar in Metal and he did half a job. He is also doing the light fixtures but they aint here either. Who the hell needs light?
.
I guess this is what soft openings is all about I guess. You don't tell too many people till you get it all together. I have no problem with that.
.
The next picture is of the place from the side entrance to the Bar.
. The place is really looking real nice and I am happy with the way it is turning out. Frustration levels are real high and my temper is short. I will get through this and go back to sleep for a month.
.
Ok, so did you hear enough bitching yet or should I continue?
.
Nah, I am tired of writing and bitching.
.

Great News and tidbits

This is one of the Logos we were working with last year when brain storming on QuiXotes. The original plan is down the drain and I am going to sell the property and close on it this month. I made money on the real estate so alls well that ends well and I have moved on to the New QuiXote's Restaurant which is located inside the Europa Hotel on Pedro Clisante in Sosua, Dominican Republic.
.
There is actually a window between the Hotel Lobby and the restaurant and I made a plastic graphic of the guy on the horse below and put it in the window or at least it is something similar to the one below. Yesterday I had the pleasure of welcoming a new member to the Escott Family. My goats of which I had 3 Billy, Goat and son of these two Butthead. Well Butthead now has a brother born yesterday and unlike Butthead who looks exactly like his momma Goat the brother looks exactly like his daddy Billy.
.
Now we need to have a baby naming and I am looking for suggestions for brother of Butthead so please make your comments and suggestions.
.
Today is Election Day in the Dominican Republic. Yesterday they closed down bars in town at 7pm and they cant reopen till 7pm today. FUnny that they didn't close all of them down, only ones on one side of town. Perhaps payoffs were smaller?
.
Being in this country from Good Friday to election day is something I don't enjoy. You have these maniacs with the loudspeakers on everything from 4 wheelers to Mack Trucks blasting NOISE at you constantly. Then you have political rallys where they drive in one direction with over 100 cars and trucks taking over 4 lanes on a two lane road forcing all oncoming traffic off the road. I have never seen anything as disrespectful as this before and I refused to pull over. Matter of fact I wouldn't even slow down and you had to see their faces when I was coming at them fast and NOT YIELDING to their stupidity!
.
I think I will try and avoid being here during that period of time next year and highly recommend that everyone else does.
.
This morning when I was coming into the restaurant some disrespectful IDIOT in a large SUV stops to chat with some other dope in the middle of the road. He doesn't care about anyone around him only his dumb ass self. When he finally moved on the guy he was talking to tried to walk in front of my car to the street. I think I gave him a few grey hairs when I wouldn't let the SOB cross in front of me.
.
I am the kind of driver that stops to let people cross the street. You have to see the look on a Dominicans face when this happens. I am not sure that they don't think I am setting them up and going to run them over as soon as they get in front of me they are in such disbelief that anyone would extend common courtesy to them. I guess courtesy is just not in the culture of most of the Dominicans I see driving. I don't know why.
.
Ok, I have just ranted. Maybe it is the stress of opening up a restaurant? Go figger!
.
Back to work as I only have 3 more days to go!
.
Hasta Pronto!

This is the start of the outside sign coming from the beach in Sosua, Dominican Republic for the all new QuiXotes Restaurant. This picture doesn't do it justice. I uploaded the wrong pic to the computer, my bad!
Below is the drawing in the window between the hotel and the restaurant. I love it! I may use this for the big sign in the street although I am not sure yet. Going to do a soft opening next Friday. No promotions or fanfare just going to try to work the kinks out of the place before we hit the promotions hard. This way if there are small problems that need to be worked out we will get fix them before people hate us:)

I am trimming out the Top of the bar where the liquor selection is with Black Steel instead of wood like I originally planned. This will go along with the light fixtures which are being custom made to look like body parts of Armour. So far I am thrilled with how the Restaurant is taking shape.

.

More pictures tomorrow!

Pie Eating Contest!

I was honored to be the official Photographer of the 1st Annual Pie Eating Contest held at Debbies Pantry in Beachway Plaza in Sosua today. There was standing room crowds that packed the whole plaze and there were literally hundreds of people watching this event. The winner was a gentleman representing Ireland who ate 7 pies and won this contest with ease. He is pictured below.

The runner up was from Canadia and he ate only 5 pies before crapping out. He is pictured below. Man what some people won't do to get into the limelight:)

This is a picture of 4 out of the 5 contestants. The Dominican showed up on Dominican Time and didn't get his picture taken. What else is new?

.

A fun time was had by all and I am sure this will be a popular event in the many years to come. Perhaps we at QuiXotes Restaurant will have a competitor for next years event representing the land of QuiXote!

Can it be? Governent doing something?

May, 7 - 5:46 AM President Fernandez affirms making conditions to re-launch tourism PUERTO PLATA.- His government is making sure that pertinent infrastructure is constructed and in place in order for Puerto Plata to regain its importance as a tourism destination, explained the President yesterday while in this city. We have already started, recently inaugurating a residual water treatment plant and a drainage system in Sosúa which solves the residual water and garbage dump on to the beach problem besides, a millionaire investment was made to rejuvenate the boardwalk (malecon), he continued. The Restaurant Moves ON!

This is a picture of the restaurant before I closed it for Renovations. Notice the low ceilings, dark floor and crappy color on the walls. This is Dori who will be in charge of the kitchen in the new QuiXotes. One of the best chefs I have had the pleasure of eating the food of in the Dominican Republic. . Notice the dark color finish on the chairs. This is a picture looking from the rear of the restaurant to the front. This is going to be a seperate dining room that is air conditioned and non smoking. I will show you another picture below. This is looking into the dining room. It will be closed off with glass doors and sidelights but transparent instead of translucent like the rear of the dining room. Notice the higher ceilings and lighter and brighter colors along with the floor that has been refinished. Take a look at the chair. ALL are refinished in a mint green. The cussion is being replaced with a pastel color rose to go with the rest of the place and I pick them up next week along with the cussions for the barstools. Comfort is one of my first priorities. I want you to come and stay and not walk away with a numb ass:)

I will post more often as the renovation is winding down. I have more time on my hands now.

WOO HOO~ Delta Adds Puerto Plata!!!

Delta adds flights to Dominican Republic Atlanta Business Chronicle - 1:06 PM EDT Monday Delta Air Lines Inc. will launch new non-stop service to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, starting Dec. 15. The new flights will complement Atlanta-based Delta's (Pink Sheets: DALRQ) existing service from three other Dominican destinations to the United States, including daily flights between Atlanta and Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, and between New York-JFK and Santo Domingo and Santiago. Rest of story can be seen at:
Man this is great news. I will now concentrate on aquiring Delta SkyMiles again! Screw American and their cancelling the NON Stop NY flights! I would rather fly through Atlanta than Miami or Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico because of loud prop planes) to NY. On Frequent flyer trips I can get a three day layover in Atlanta and hang out with my family which makes me about the happiest I can be considering we are a long distance apart!
I hope my cousin Davida is reading this! Now there is no excuse for them NOT to come here also! Heh!
I hope to get a lot accomplished at QuiXote's this week although I lost a day today because of the Dominican Holiday. Things just don't go as planned here but you have to just accept this. Two people told me they were coming to work today and just didn't show wasting my time although not a big deal.

Now this is what make life totally worth living! Say hello to Disnalda. This is the young gal that Dawn and I have put in Private English/Spanish school. I tried to get a picture of her with her hair braid as a mustashe on her but she turned the tables on me once more and of course Dawn was there thinking this was hilarious to take the picture!
Disnalda is now doing GREAT in school. It took a long time including after school, tutoring and a lot of socialization but now it is all worth it! I spent 4000 pesos today for tutoring and agreed to get her tutoring all summer. By the time next year rolls along she should be ahead of her grade I hope!

Here she is the HAM getting her picture taken on my sofa. Beautiful, sweet and intelligent! What a fine woman she is going to turn out to be!

This is the Upper Bar in QuiXotes. As soon as the freakin floor gets finished the upper bar when you look at it will have smoked glass and mirror behind it. This will be to display the liquors and wines and possibly beers if I can get a decent selection.
.
I have the guy coming to do this and to install a mirror and vanity in the womans bathroom on Saturday.
.
The owner of the hotel said to me yesterday "I hope you are opened by the 22nd of May because we are full starting then. I said I would certainly try to be open by then!
.
Disnalda the little girl Dawn and I put in School is doing great! She has now been the student of the week 2x and her grades are exploding! Yippee... She just called me and is going to my condo now. Cant wait to see her.
.
Back to work to see if these "FOLKS" are going to get the freak'n floor done today or not. ERRRRRR!
. Well here is the picture of the floor that AIN'T finished yet. I hope, I hope!! What you are looking at under the windows is where a 12 foot 2 piece sofa. In front of that will go tables. I will get about 4 more seats with this instead of two built in benches that were there and I took out. .
Step by step, slowly I turn, getting work done, getting work done...
.
Disnalda is here now and Dawn just took a picture of us which I will post next.

Do you like Spicy food?

If you like real Thai food you would resemble this picture:) Man I love hot food and I always challange Dori to light me up when I eat at his restaurant! Anyone else out there love their food hot enough that you can taste it both entering and leaving? LOL . Alberto from Anoeca the finance house in Puerto Plata stopped by the restaurant I am renovating tonight and gave me a great suggestion regarding signage outside which I am going to use. I picked up this clay tile for decorating the lower exterior wall of the restaurant and he suggested doing a sign on the wall in broken tile which I love! Going to get that done! I was previously going to frame it in the clay tile but now I am not only going to frame it but going to do it in the broken tile. . Alberto is the kind of guy that really enriches your life. He over the years has been a wealth of information to me and has taught me so much about the country I live in. I hope our friendship continues forever! . Wednesday I have the upper bar being finished in Smoked glass on the outside and Mirrors on the inside. Great way to display liquors, wines and beers! I will have lights installed also so it will be an easy way to see what you want to order. . I got my block delivered today to build my short wall which will be the entrance to the service area to a private air conditioned dining room. Hopefully my storefront gets delivered and installed this week. I am going replace the tile with a new and more modern tile in this area that will be under air. Have to get the store front in before I can get that done. . Today they started grouting the Stone with the crushed granite and will be finished by thursday. Need to get that guy out of the place so I can get my other work done. It is all coming together and I am getting excited seeing it all come together. I am getting a great reaction from the folks that have been coming in to see what I am doing. One of the best compliments came from Camden Tom when he said he was jealous and another from Jackie Quontee who wanted to invest. Nice to know others seem to like what I am doing. . There is a 4th of July Bbq at Lou's NY Shark Bar and I will post the info when I find it again. Beats the hell out of the other choices. All you can eat and you don't have to cook the crap yourself! HEH... . Tomorrow is Taco Tuesday. I hope I am not too tired to go this week and I am looking forward to it! I miss those guys when I didn't go last week. . Hope your night is a good one! . Hasta Pronto!
PS> Don't forget to click to buy me breakfast! Man I am hungry tomorrow! LOL
First of all I have to give credit for this photo to my friend Amity. She sent me a link to her picture storage and I yoked this one to post on the blog when I had a chance. Not only a beautiful woman but a great Photographer. Beautiful flower! When I saw Amity over Easter she had a great haircut and looked even more lovely than before if you can believe it! She looks simply beautiful in short hair! .
Hey folks the second thing is that I was only able to have coffee this morning and you are all slacking off! Man I am hungry. Click Click!
.
Saturday I worked a half day getting stuff done at the new location for QuiXotes which is located inside the Europa Hotel on Pedro Clisante on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. . They finished banging out the concrete the stone floor was set in and tomorrow which is Monday they start regrouting it with Granito. That is crushed granite what has a nice look to it. . Hopefully this week I get the storefront installed that will separate the restaurant from the Pool area in the back. Next will be to get another set of double glass doors set to make a dining area that I can Air Condition. It will be pretty small and only seat from 20 t0 24 people but that is a lot if I can serve that area 2x for dinner which I am planning on doing eventually on those hot summer nights. . Also the Top cabinates have been stripped to put smoked glass on the outside looking in and mirrors on the doors facing out with lights. That should be finished this coming week also. . Ah more about the restaurant when I go back to work tomorrow. Saturday afternoon when I was finished working I called my buddy Jackie Quontree to see how he was doing and perhaps to have dinner with him. I was actually thinking about going up to Puerto Plata and eating and hanging there but he came to Sosua instead. We met at Eddys Sports Bar to watch the Heavyweight fight that was on the big screen and then had dinner at Asiatico which is also located in Eddys Sports Bar. . I had Yellow Seafood Curry which was out of this world. Jackie had some sort of pork dish with rice and he said he liked it a lot also. Afterwards we went over to the new restaurant to show him what had happened since he was there the week before. After hanging out there for a while we went out prowling the streets. First stop was Lou's NY Shark Bar. Had some good conversations and drinks with Lou and hit the road again. To make a long story short we spent the night on the town and chatting most of the night. At the end of the night I suggest to Jackie to stay over and he could return to Puerto Plata after breakfast which he agreed to and I took him to his car and he followed me home and then disappeared and has never been heard from again! Oh well, I am not my brothers keeper. . Today I went to the home of Avocado Brian with my friend Camden Tom. Tom wanted to see how and what Brian did to his Gentlemans farm since he also bought a farm in the area and is still unsure which direction to go in with it. We spent the day sampling wines and liquors and having enjoyable conversations. Brian has a winery and a distillary close by and makes both liquors and wines locally. I plan on selling these at QuiXotes when we open. . Came home and just hung out on the computer listening to music and relaxing the rest of the day and night and will be at the restaurant to open up for the workers at 8 am tomorrow. I look forward to it and getting making a lot of progress this coming week. Sorry that the blog hasn't been that regular nor have my photos which I know a lot of people enjoy. . Hasta Pronto!

I have been a busy guy...

I have been a very busy guy this week. I am in the process of renovating a restaurant I purchased and I start at 8am every day and don't stop till all the workers stop for the day. . On my other computer I am detailing the renovation with a daily and I will post it as soon as I am finished.. . In the mean time I have the floor being completely redone, the dropped wood ceiling being removed and new paint being applied everywhere. . That is just for starters. I am building a store front to the rear of the restaurant facing the pool and hotel, making larger womans bathroom with mirrors and a vanity, doing to upper part of the bar with smoked glass, lights and a mirror back. I am refinishing the furniture in different colors, the cushions redone and a 10 foot sofa being built in. . Hopefully I will re-open the restaurant in 3-6 more weeks of constant work but, you never know. All I know is that when I am finished I will have something I like and so will you and if you don't I will have to hurt you! LOL . Sorry if my postings aren't regular some times and the pictures don't get posted every day but I will add stuff as time allows. . I was at the attorneys today and took a deposit on the original site for QuiXotes and will close next month. . Check out http://www.dominicankids.com as we are adding things to the monthly auction just about every day. These auctions last for 30 days and you can find some interesting things. . Latest item is a day on a ship that will sail out of Confresi and go either to Sosua or Luperon for the day. This cruise will be for 8 people and has a value of over 4000 US dollars. You will not only get to enjoy the day and your party of friends but you will also get to hang out with Darlene who was able to aquire this for us and myself that day. . We raised over 8000 US dollars on the Auction that closed on Easter Sunday and that was without the help of 92.5 Rubi FM because they were off the air at the time and without the help of a website that let us promote last time. They wouldn't let us promote there this time because I wouldn't let the money go to the reefs as the owner of the website wanted when I raised the money to benefit Children of the North Coast. When I told him that it wasn't going to happen he got a bit upset with me and even banned me from the site. We are building a Free Dental Clinic in Puerto Plata instead which I think is money better spent and so do the other people that were active in raising money for both events. Well even without him and his site went 20 % over our last years auction which was a great success and we raised 6500 US dollars. . The only place we were hurt was the attendence at the dinner. Guess that website is good to get people to eat although not to get people to donate goods and services and also to bid on stuff. We did better without them so no complaints from me. Perhaps next time we will get support from Rubi 92.5 and other websites that appreciate what we are doing. . Perhaps Dominicantoday.com will help to promote us next time around. Probably get more people to eat also:) . Hasta Pronto!

New Restaurant "QuiXote's Diner"

This is the site of the NEW QuiXote's Diner. It is in the Hotel Europa on Calle Pedro Clisante which is the main street of El Batey, Sosua, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This is the HEART and SOUL of the North Coast! The restaurant is now closed and in the process of being renovated from Bop to Tottem. New Floors start tomorrow, new Rear Entranceis currently started and the glass doors and side panels are ordered and will be installed in 10 days.
.
This is going to be an interesting project and I am looking forward to it. The restaurant currently seats 48 and 16 at the bar.
.
I am going to add hi speed wireless internet which is already ordered, free calls to the US and Canada with a minimum check and the largest selection of liquors on the North Coast to just name a few of the things I am working on.
.
Hopefully the opening is going to be 4-6 weeks. Time will tell and as many of you know getting work done in the Dominican Republic is sometimes very very difficult but patience is a virtue and I have plenty. As long as there is work being done every day I am ok with this.
You will NOT recognize the place if you have been inside of it before. The difference will amaze you and hopefully entice you to come often and stay long.
Hasta Pronto!

LAST DAY BEFORE CLOSING OF BENEFIT AUCTION!!

Tomorrow we are having our Easter Dinner/Childrens Benefit Auction Close on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic at Eddys Sports Bar in Sosua starting at 2pm with the closing of the silent auction at 4pm. The cost is 399 Pesos for the meal (74 pesos goes to the kids directly) and you will LOVE THIS MEAL..
. Ok folks, the time is drawing near to the closing of our Easter Fundraiser for the Poor Kids of the Dominican Republic. Tomorrow the auction closes at 4pm.
.
We are over 7600 US dollars so far and we are looking to crack 1o,ooo US Dollars if at all possible. Money donations have been pouring in. We have posted donations as small as $20 US dollars and will be happy to post smaller donations or to keep them as annoymous if you desire.
.
This picture is of Wines and Liquors made in the Dominican Republic right here on the North Coast. It is one of the items you can bid on. The current bid is only 3000 Pesos on this assortment and I can assure you that is a BARGAIN. What better way to equip your home for DRUNKS like me to visit?
.
You can also bid on a week at Sun Village which is the NICEST ALL INCLUSIVE on the North Coast and Oceanworld for two for the best time of your life. Heck there are so many things you can bid on it is impossible to tell you all about them here.
.
Just go to http://www.dominicankids.com and check out what we have to offer. NOW is the time folks, help us set the new standard for fundraising here today and tomorrow and be a part of a great thing for poor children of the Dominican Republic. Open your hearts and your pockets right now before you put it out of your minds!!
.
We raised about 6500 US Dollars last year and I am happy to announce we have gone over that amount already with some time left to CRUSH it with a bunch of last minute donations which I know you guys are just waiting to do!
.
With this money and the last money we are in the process of building, equiping and running a FREE Dental Clinic which will be in Puerto Plata City for the benefit of the poorest and most neediest children in the Dominican Republic. This is just the start folks. We plan on expanding this to do many many great things for these children. Dental is just the start of it. We have a whole building and can do 3 other practices on the main floor alone and we have a second level. Together we can do great things for the poor children of the Dominican Republic!
.
Sorry I haven't been posting lately in the blog but that is because I have been out of my home for a few days and have limited internet access and I have also bought a restaurant here in the Dominican Republic inside of one of the Hotels which I plan to close on Monday and totally renovate and reopen in 4-6 Weeks. The property is a condo so I also bought the real estate along with the business and plan to invest some money in it to make it a super place.
.
Some of the things we are going to offer at the restaurant is Free Wireless internet which is already ordered and to be installed in 10 working days or less. We purchased 3x the bandwidth that I have in my home so we can accomodate many people without slowdown. Wireless router has already been muled in by Motor City Mike so we are ready to fly.
.
We are going to offer Cushioned Chairs and Bar stools with the largest selection of Premium Liquors in the whole Dominican Republic. The menu? Forgetaboutit. You are gonna love it.
.
More info to follow, stay tuned! Renovations start MONDAY!
.

Say hello to Avocado Brian.

.

We went to his Wine and Whiskey tasting last night. There must have been about 125-150 people there and everything was done in the best possible manner with a lot of class! My hats off to you brother on a job well done!

.

Everyone had a great time and with the exception of losing money at the casino last night I have a great time! Got to see some old friends and met more than just a few people. Heck even ran into Metalhead there.

.

There is a link to his blog on my blog here on the right so check him out and go out to his place and buy his wines and whiskeys. I know I plan on myself! The Shiraz and the Merlot were the best in my opinion so I plan on buying a case of each along with the Whiskeys! Great stuff folks at a reasonable price.

.

This picture was taken last week at Taco Tuesday. The woman on the left is Lorna who is Linda Loves mom. She came down for a few weeks when Linda needed to do some work on her new home in construction.
.
The woman on the Right is Disnalda who is the little sweetie that Dawn and I put in a private English/Spanish School. This is her second year in school and is doing real well now.
.
We are just trying to add to the pool of future Dominicans that will run this country and hopefully turn this place around and put the people before the graft and corruption!
.
Meanwhile Linda and Lorna are back in Canadia and I already miss them. It was great hanging out with them for a couple of weeks. Real decent people and a pleasure. For the first week that they were here they had another friend Laurie here and she also was a pleasure to have around. Spent much time at dinner tables with them just chatting and enjoying their company. Come back soon guys, I miss you all!
.
Tuesday is Taco Tuesday again folks and I have already had bookings in the free taxi that goes from Sosua to Taco Tuesday. I still have some room and we can also get Dawn to drive also if there is anyone else needing a lift. I leave Sosua at EXACTLY 6:30pm so let me know if you want to go.
.
Hasta Pronto!

This is Sarai and her brother. When Dawn and I were in Florida in February we picked Sarai up a inexpensive digital camera. I wanted to wait till Dawn returned to give it to her so we went up to her house today and did just that.

.

Sarai was the little girl who spoke such beautiful English that inspired me to put Disnalda in the same school she goes to. Not only speaks well but beautiful as well.

.

The family is so nice that the mother tried to feed us after we already ate. Just down home decent people and perhaps these are the kids that are going to grow up and turn this country in a great direction! Wouldn't it be nice?

.

Hasta Pronto!

Had lunch at Asiatico which is located in Eddys Sports Bar today. I got this cutie to pose for me but she was kicking and screaming about it:) Don't know why!
.
She was a good sport so I took a complimentary one also. Man what is with all the sweeties in the Dominican Republic. You would think that they grew them on trees.

Mango Larry Y Motor City Mike come to town

The fellow on the left is Mango Larry. We use to be neighbors in the US and hung out together there on many occassions when we were both in town. At that point in my life I was getting ready to pull the trigger and move here to the Dominican Republic so we had limited times hanging out but always felt that he was a good friend! . The fellow on the right is Motor City Mike. He comes from the Detroit area and visits this place often. About 2 years ago he stayed in one of my condos. I almost didn't rent to him because both him and his wife smoked but he assured me that they would only smoke outside. . Well today both him and his wife have stopped smoking and he said I was a piece of the reasons that they quit. Now I don't know if he was shining me on but if I had anything to do with this I am a happy guy. We usually hang out when he is in town and he is a great guy. Glad he is now going to be a healthy guy. . Mike brought down a wireless router for me and I went and grabbed it up this evening. I then took Mike on the Escott's Famous Finca tour. I think that Mike enjoyed it although it was getting dark by the time we finished. .
When I got the call that Mike was ready to hand over my router I was on the phone with my buddy Jackie Quontree. He called me from Connecticut on my NY number. Man I love my Vonage Phone. My friends can call me and chat till there is nothing left to chat about without any worries of the rates of the international calls. Get the Vonage folks, it is the cats arse!
.
Jackie gets to town on Tuesday. Man it is always great to hang out with Jackie and I can't wait to spend some time with him. He promised me that he wasn't going to wear his "Break Dancing" outfit anymore:) He went out and bought some clothes because i busted his butt last time he was in town wearing the Shorts that came down to his ankles. I took one look at the guy and I asked "when do you start the breakdance"? Ah poor Jackie! No more Break Dancing for him!
.
I am still trying to convince this Indian to hang out in Central Park with me one night in Puerto Plata with a Jug of Wine. Jackie needs to figure out how to relax and just hang with his homies! Perhaps this will be the time. I bet even Carina will join us. Hell I know that Motor City Mike would be down for this. How about it guys. Lets get a few jugs of wine and spend the evening in the park one night! Learn how to live LARGE for once!
. This is one of the lovely sisters that work at Pluto's Bar in the picture above. Just a sweet nice gal who always has a pretty smile on her face. Not too hard to look at either! Stop into Plutos when you are in town. Pleasant place and always a pleasant smile awaits you! . Today I got a lovely email from a Dominican living in the States. She/He read this blog and was taken with the fundraising we are doing on http://www.dominicankids.com It was one of the sweetest emails I have received in a while so I am going to post it here so you can see it also. I hope that it isn't a problem so I will leave out the name and personal info just in case.
.
Start email:
Scott. I can't describe in words how great it makes me feel to seethat there are still people like you in this word. I was born in asmall town in the north of the Dominican Republic about an hour awayfrom Gaspar Hernandez it is called Tenares maybe you heard of it.Although i can't say I was a rich child, my family did their best toprovide me with food and some education. Today thanks to the deploredeconomic situation in the DR, I live in the United States but my heartstays with the people in my country specially those in need of suchbasic services as food, running water, electricity and health care. Iwill provide a small contribution using paypal (school let me kind ofbroke) but will definitely share this with all my friends and with theadministrators of various blogs directories I know. I will linkdominicankids.com to my page and will ask my friends to do the same. Thanks in the name of all Dominicans for the work you are doing for this cause
.
End Email:
.
I will post a link to his/her blog. It is in Spanish so if you don't read and understand you may not want to go there. http://www.blogico.net
.
With these types of people joining the effort along with everyone else who are helping out to help the children of the North Coast via http://www.dominicankids.com I can't see how we can be anything less than a complete success!
.
Remember folks, dinner is at 2pm on the 16th of April at Eddys Sports Bar. Great meal for 399 Pesos and 74 of them there pesos goes to the kids. Great meal, great company and we get to do some good for others that are not as fortunate as we are!!
.
I have a closing on Monday at 4pm and if all goes as expected I have some exciting stuff to share with you all about a new project for me.
.
I have to catch up on the blog since I have been busy with other things so you may get a few bits at once.

Little over a week to go on the Auction and...

Ok folks, we are getting to the end of the line and we have just over 1 week to go till the close of the Auction to benefit poor children on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.
.
We are adding stuff every day and just today added Golf with Lunch at Guaveberry Resort and Country Club thanks to Helmut!
.
It isn't too late to get some good deals on many things in the auction. You can also donate cash through PayPal via donate@dominicankids.com or just pledge and we will get it from you.
.
Today Linda and her Mom Lorna left to return to Canadia. Too bad, I will miss them. Spent a lot of time with them this trip and I enjoyed myself.
.
Linda was a Speed Skater for the Canadia National Team and I heard that when she first was going out with her now hubby Doug Hicks, retired Pro Hockey Player who was a Defense Partner with Bobby Orr got smoked by his now lovely wife. Now this is just a rumor mind you but Doug, did a Girl really whoop your ass? LOL
.
She wanted to arm wrestle me for a check and I looked her over real good and responded, "I will arm wrestle you but I aint gonna leg wrestle you for that check! LOL Hey, I am just a little more in tune with my eyes than Doug is:)
.
On another note while taking her to the airport the conversation of how to stop a runnie butt if you had something that didn't agree with you and I said Banana's work great. Hell they work just as good eating the damn things as shoving them up your, oh well, you should get it by now and she bet me I wouldn't put it on the blog but here it be guys. Remember, Montezumas Revenge=Bananas! Works great and taste better! (Not after the shove though!)
.
Tomorrow I have a closing of a condo for my buddy Herbie in Club Residential in Sosua. I do the walk thru at 11 am and close it at 3pm. Heck I also have an Airport pick up at 1:10pm so it is going to be a pretty tight day for me. Motor City Mike is getting into town for a quick one and I promised to pick his ass up at the airport so I will!
.
This coming week is going to be a fun one. Jackie Quontee is returning and so are a bunch of other great people I want to see. Brad just got back yesterday, no make that today but I can't take him to the casino for the booze tasting. Last time he went to a casino we had to call a Lawyer for him so we are keeping him out!:)
.
Remember at 6:30pm at Ocean Dreams Casino in Cabarete is a free wine and whiskey tasting tomorrow. I am bringing a bunch of people that are otherwise too damn cheap to get drunk on their own pocketbooks so they are going to do a (wink wink) tasting!:)
.
Taco Tuesday was fun although it was a slow one. Rob and Sandy need to return to Seatle so it can pick up again!:)
.
Rubi 92.5 went back on the air today so turn the dial back to 92.5 Fm and check them out. I am hoping Steve pushes the Easter dinner and Auction at Eddys for me in the next week. We need to get the word out there. Hell I have to start talking it up myself as I have neglected to do so since I have been displaced from my condo which I happen to have returned to for a few days and then I am displaced once again! After that I will move back in and stay!
.
Okey dokey folks, haven't been posting much lately because of NO INTERNET but I am BACK!
.
Hasta Pronto!

Sunday I went to Sosua's Main Beach which is just about a block from my house. I don't spend an awful lot of time there but once in a while I go. . My buddy Edd (Rellosk)kind of adopted this little beach bar #39 and of course I go there to kind of support my friends. . It is owned by Margaurita and is named Margaurita's Beach Bar. To the left is a picture of her which I took yesterday and I love. Framed between the palm trees with the cowboy hat and the guy in the background also wearing a hat just worked for me and I liked the shot. . When I got to the beach and to this particular bar Boston Jim and Tamborista (Ian) were already sitting there Sucking down drinks. I of course joined them and sucked a few down myself. . Stayed here till almost sunset and left to go read a book for a few hours. Finished a great book by Daniel Silva although I don't remember the name. It is the latest paperback out by him which I picked up in Florida last month. . Here is a picture of Jim and Ian with a bunch of Dominican Cuties who were also there and taking pictures. These hams had to get onto the blog so I accomodated them. . Later that evening I ran across Iam at the "4 Roses" bar on Pedro Clisante which is right near the Europa Hotel. Believe it or not it was the first time I was ever there. Another friend was there with Ian and when a Prostitute approached him he started telling her that he lived there but I was a tourist and looking for a woman. Man these guys love to stir the shit! I casually took out my Dominican Passport out of my pocket to his chagrin and you needed to see this guy back peddle with this FUGLY Working gal! It was funny, she saw my passport and walked away. . We left here and headed to Lou's Shark Bar on Pedro Clisante which is right across from Harrisons Jewelers next to the new disco that just opened there. Lou has been out of t0wn for a couple of weeks and while he was away his place was finally finished. Welcome back Lou! Great to see you and it was a great crowd there. . For all that don't know it Lou serves the best Hamburger in Sosua. Not cheap but certainly the best you can buy! I had one at about midnight which was my first solid food since breakfast. Dawn showed up at Lous and shared my burger with me and loved it also~! Check out Lou's Shark Bar folks. Nice crowd and a great host who it is always a pleasure to hang out with. If you don't like his hamburger I will be way surprised! . Also just in town is my buddy Mike from Florida. Mike is the guy who everyone thinks is my brother and just as soon as I walked into Lou's the gal he was with asked if we were brothers. I am the better looking one in the family but there must be something to this as many people make these comments. One time he showed his sister a picture of me and she thought it was him which made me laugh. Also in town with Mike was another friend Darren. Great to see all these perpetual visitors here. .
Hey it was nice to check in this morning and see that my breakfast was already paid for! Thanks guys, keep clicking and I will think of all of you every day at breakfast! Had the whole kit and kaboodle this morning at Extreme Hotel where I still am. Great breeze coming off the ocean and a nice young sports crowd here. Check it out when you are in town.
.
I had the QuiXote's property cleaned by my gardener last week and hired a guy to take away the piles of stuff and also to cut down the two BIG trees out front. I already had the permit. Cost to haul 2 truckloads of garbage plus cut and haul 2 large trunked trees was 6500 pesos which is about 200 US dollars. Reasonable to me! I wouldnt have done it for twice the money.
.
I have a couple of people talking about renting it and a couple of people talking about buying it. I don't even care one way or the other. There is no yearly real estate tax here so it cost nothing to keep up and the way the Real Estate is appreciating here it makes money doing nothing so since I don't need the money, who cares.
.
I will close on another commercial property this month. I will let you know when it happens and what it is after it closes. This one is going to be a fun project. I also have 2 more residential lots I am working on and will also let you know about those when they are a done deal also. It is fun looking at and aquiring properties here. Where else can you spend a lot of money on something you like without feeling bad about spending the money?:)
.
No one has any comments on the theme restaurant "Jehovahs Diner""Don't make us come to YOU!"? Did I make more enemies with my humor? Comon folks lighten up it was funny.
.
Ok folks, another great day on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Had some rain last week and some sun but today is a special day. Magical. Wish you were here!
Hasta Pronto!

Breakfast is hurting

This is the site of the Wine and Booze tasting on the 7th of April. Ocean Sands Casino in Cabarete at 6:30PM.

.

I will be here along with everyone I can drag with me. I have to say that I have tasted both the wines and the booze and I LOVE them or most of them actually. Also a great bang for the buck!

.

If I don't get too drunk I may play some black jack after and make my donation to the betterment of the casino also.

.

For anyone that wants to go from Sosua email me and I will help with transportation if my car is full which I am sure it will be but we have plenty of friends that are willing to help!

.

Today I only had coffee for breakfast because you guys are slacking off a bit on clicking:) I have been eating well except the last day or so but comon guys! LOL

.

Last night went to Pier Georgio for dinner at their Wood fired Pizza Restaurant. Prices were very reasonable considering the price and value of the view you get from this place which is right on the water looking at the airport in Puerto Plata watching the SUCKERS going home while you are there having dinner:)

.

This of course was after we went to the spot that Doug and Linda are building a home in Panarama Village which overlooks just about everything towards the water. I was told of some problems with Pablo the architect who works for Perdomo. Just a guy looking to give "SOME" people a hard time and allowing others to get away with murder. Very typical of what I have experienced when I had to deal with him. Be careful if you have to go to him for approvals of ANYTHING. I would get your approvals before you put a down payment on anything that these people have anything to do with as you may be in for a surprise. Just a word of caution from what I have experienced and what I was told by others.

.

Today is a lazy day. Went to Britannia for breakfast and had the eggs benedict. They have a great Sunday Meal which is suppose to be typical Roast dinner "English" style and it looked good on the menu but started less than an hour after I finished my breakfast. Great breakfast as always! Love this place and the class that Liam and Paul have incorporated into this Sosua Landmark! A great place to hang out!

.

The Square and Compass which is two doors down from the Britannia is being completely renovated. Nice to see good stuff happening here in Sosua. I truly believe that you won't recognize this place in 2 years. It is uplifting to see all the renovations and class added to this place and gives me more confidence in the future development here. People are starting to understand that investments will be rewarded when they see how well the Britannia is doing. Hats off to everyone who is making a positive investment here! Looking great! It won't be long till the dumps close for lack of business with all the positive investment going on here. The BS is going to have no ears soon is my bet.

.

You can see this type of thing going on the whole length of Perdro Clisante which is the main Street in Sosua! Good things are on the Horizon for this sleepy and somewhat seedy little beach town and things are looking up for the first time in a while.

.

Have no idea what is on todays agenda yet. Will play it by ear. Got email from a couple of friend that are coming down in the next couple of days. This was of course great news! John otherwise known as Duhtree and my other friend Gillian are always great to see. Hey Tom and Mary, you guys ought to be coming back soon! I have a lot of things to discuss with you guys!

.

Again http://www.dominicankids.com is having an auction of goods and services to benefit poor children of the North Coast of the Dominican Republic so check out what is available for you to aquire on the cheap. OceanWorld is still less than HALF PRICE folks and there are a lot of other great bargains there! We are way ahead of last year in both the bid and donation departments as well as donations of goods and services to be bid on.

.

No comments on the last bit about the name of the Diner? Man you mean to tell me I didn't insult anyone even? LOL

.

Hasta Pronto!

This first georgous gal is Disnalda. Dawn collected her to go to Taco Tuesday. She of course loves the cellular phone she picked up.
.
Everytime Dawn takes her to Taco Tuesday it makes my heart feel good! It is such a pleasure to see her lovely face every time I don't know how to explain it.
.
I am sitting at Extreme Hotel Bar on the beach having a beer and and internet looking at the beach and I just saw a person on a horse behind two saddled horses heading back to probably Gipsey Horse Ranch. I am wondering what happened to the people that were on the horses? Perhaps they only wanted a one way ride:) Actually I saw a couple of people and one had a bad seat. That means she didn't know how to ride and was bouncing high and low on the saddle. Perhaps she had enough and her male companion figured if he wanted a piece later he should give up the ride?:) LOL
This other little girl was also at Taco Tuesday and I took this picture there. She had the "Deer in the Headlights" look and I think she will never outgrow that! LOL She was a cutie though and I enjoyed photographing her. Almost looks like a carnival doll! Cute as a button!
.
Dawn and I went to Sun Village for a Bbq this morning. You wont believe who was performing there when we got there. Teddy Reider of Teddy's Island Bbq! They were raising money for a orphanage in Puerto Plata and he was signing his books for people if they donated 100 US dollars. I was trying to convince Dawn to go up there with $200- bucks in cash if he promised not to do anymore radio Ads and she said yes. They closed the show as I was digging the $200- bucks out and she said "Saved by the Bell" which was a true story because I was as serious as a heart attack in my offer. The most obnoxious commercials I ever heard in my life. However he was raising money for a orphanage and how bad can the guy be? Check out Teddy's Island Barbaque in Confresi right on the beach when you are there. If you eat one of his "Ludicrous Burgers" I will shoot your dumb ass dead. Man my arteries hardend when I hear the description of that crap!
.
I think I am going to buy a restaurant and make a Diner out of it. Dawn and I were talking about a name on the way up to Confresi today. So let me ask you a question, do you think that this name will work?
.
Jehova's Diner
Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner
Please, Don't make us Come to YOU!
.
Will I get a reaction to this like I got from AZB when I posted the Prophets
Cartoons or will people appreciate the Humor? I won't be operating the restaurant just owning the Property but hey, I want imput on this ya know! Give me some feedback on this.
.
When I lived in New York I had a home and a guest cottage on top of a mountain on 75 Acres. Would you believe I had Jehova's Witnesses at my door on Sunday mornings when I was sleeping? No joke, it was almost like a very Dominican thing. When you thought you have seen it all YOU GET TO SEE IT ALL AGAIN!
.
Ok, so my humor is different and I march to the beat of a different Drummer. However, if you can't have fun in life, is it worth living?
.
The kids auction is going great! Someone bid $200 US Dollars for Escotts famous North Coast Tour. That is not high enough as this tour is a world class tour that offers an insiders beat to the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Get in there and bid higher!
.
Just so you know we are doing much better than when it was up on DR1, both in the Auction Items and the bids. We only got bids from a very few people on DR1 and NOT one item was courtesy of DR1 other than two directory pages. Hey, now that we are talking about that can someone ask Robert why he hasn't donated 2 more for this event? Bound to get your asses thrown off of DR1 so do that at your own risk, fair warning~! Man I crack myself up! Robert did actually help for the last auction! He sponsored the forum that had the bids and he collected the money which I can assure you was a tiresome job. .
He just got upset when I said that the money raised "For the Kids" didnt go to the reefs. I can't help that. When I promote something to benefit the Poor kids of the North Coast of the Dominican Republic I can't sit by when he brings a "Reef Guy" to the first meeting about how to use the funds like it was a done deal. I consulted many people who supported the cause and they agreed with me and my take on this and I have since gotten a GREAT RESPONSE to the opening of a free dental clinic to benefit poor children living on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. This is why this second fund raiser is more successful in advance. You people like what we are doing and the direction we are going and I thank you for your support.
.
We have a great group of people working on this. Carina from PocoLoco web design is doing a great job running the website and there are many people taking part in the aquiring of goods and service to auction off and people are bidding like crazy!
.
Get involved folks if you aren't already. This is a very rewarding project and will only get more so! Many things in the wind such as someone writing a grant for a Mobile Dental Clinic and Grant for teaching science in the schools here! More than that and I will speak about them as they come to fruition!
.
Ok, I am exhausted from the day and writing this blog. Try to think about how you can help us help the kids on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic~!
Hasta Pronto!
.
.
Get on here and post a bid!
.
Hasta Pronto!
