This is the start of the outside sign coming from the beach in Sosua, Dominican Republic for the all new QuiXotes Restaurant. This picture doesn't do it justice. I uploaded the wrong pic to the computer, my bad!
Below is the drawing in the window between the hotel and the restaurant. I love it! I may use this for the big sign in the street although I am not sure yet. Going to do a soft opening next Friday. No promotions or fanfare just going to try to work the kinks out of the place before we hit the promotions hard. This way if there are small problems that need to be worked out we will get fix them before people hate us:)

I am trimming out the Top of the bar where the liquor selection is with Black Steel instead of wood like I originally planned. This will go along with the light fixtures which are being custom made to look like body parts of Armour. So far I am thrilled with how the Restaurant is taking shape.

More pictures tomorrow!

Barstools were returned today. Posts holding them up were painted also and man they look good! Pick up the cushions shortly. New foam and upholstery make for comfort seating to go along with the comfort food! My Partner Jackie wanted a Movie Theater because he got bored living for 3 weeks in Puerto Plata so we put one of them in also. First run US movies every night! Jackie will be there to make the popcorn for you! . Hey, anyone coming to Sosua SOS, I need booze from Duty Free. I would be happy to pick you up at the airport in Puerto Plata and take you to Sosua if you send me your Flight info and I will return you my shopping list. Good deal all around! . New chair cushions come in next week and we should have a soft opening to go along with the seating! . Moved faster than I thought it would. Been cracking the whip pretty hard on the boys doing the work but it is paying off. May not be 100% but we WILL BE OPEN by the 22nd of the month when the Hotel is 100% full. . It has been fun for the most part and if anyone asks I have a clean mind because I have changed it so many times during the renovation but the Joint is looking good and we are just about ready to ROCK AND ROLL! . Thanks for tuning in guys, hope you visit us in Sosua when you get to town. It will be our pleasure to serve you and I promise you we will make you happy with no excuses! .
Tomorrow the electrician cleans up the wiring, rest of wall tile is installed, joint gets set up and we are just waiting for the custom made lighting fixtures to come in. Wireless internet is installed and ready for you all to enjoy! Whoops, one more set of glass doors need to be put in place and that is all she wrote! . Hasta Pronto!

Pie Eating Contest!

I was honored to be the official Photographer of the 1st Annual Pie Eating Contest held at Debbies Pantry in Beachway Plaza in Sosua today. There was standing room crowds that packed the whole plaze and there were literally hundreds of people watching this event. The winner was a gentleman representing Ireland who ate 7 pies and won this contest with ease. He is pictured below.

The runner up was from Canadia and he ate only 5 pies before crapping out. He is pictured below. Man what some people won't do to get into the limelight:)

This is a picture of 4 out of the 5 contestants. The Dominican showed up on Dominican Time and didn't get his picture taken. What else is new?

.

A fun time was had by all and I am sure this will be a popular event in the many years to come. Perhaps we at QuiXotes Restaurant will have a competitor for next years event representing the land of QuiXote!

Can it be? Governent doing something?

May, 7 - 5:46 AM President Fernandez affirms making conditions to re-launch tourism PUERTO PLATA.- His government is making sure that pertinent infrastructure is constructed and in place in order for Puerto Plata to regain its importance as a tourism destination, explained the President yesterday while in this city. We have already started, recently inaugurating a residual water treatment plant and a drainage system in Sosúa which solves the residual water and garbage dump on to the beach problem besides, a millionaire investment was made to rejuvenate the boardwalk (malecon), he continued. The Restaurant Moves ON!

This is a picture of the restaurant before I closed it for Renovations. Notice the low ceilings, dark floor and crappy color on the walls. This is Dori who will be in charge of the kitchen in the new QuiXotes. One of the best chefs I have had the pleasure of eating the food of in the Dominican Republic. . Notice the dark color finish on the chairs. This is a picture looking from the rear of the restaurant to the front. This is going to be a seperate dining room that is air conditioned and non smoking. I will show you another picture below. This is looking into the dining room. It will be closed off with glass doors and sidelights but transparent instead of translucent like the rear of the dining room. Notice the higher ceilings and lighter and brighter colors along with the floor that has been refinished. Take a look at the chair. ALL are refinished in a mint green. The cussion is being replaced with a pastel color rose to go with the rest of the place and I pick them up next week along with the cussions for the barstools. Comfort is one of my first priorities. I want you to come and stay and not walk away with a numb ass:)

I will post more often as the renovation is winding down. I have more time on my hands now.
