Kids and Comments

These two girls met at Taco Tuesday around Christmas time and had a great time together. Sylvie sent me this photo just recently and I love it.
Yes I stole this from another blog. I loved it and made it mine. Actually the blog I stole it from had also stolen it from someone else:) Let me know if you get the point! I don't even care if KiwiCanuck comments again. I even love stupid comments just as much as I do intelligent ones.

I have been reading some blogs recently for both ideas and to see who has something that interests me. I found one blog on Cellulite and another on Potty Training. Man, I have to tell you, I couldnt get off both of these quick enough although I believe there are people who read it daily!

This picture is of me in the center, Disnalda on the left and Gabi (Sylvies daughter) on the Right.

Dawn and I are putting Disnalda through private English-Spanish School at Garden Kids. At first there was jealousy from Gabi because I enjoy spending time with her and she has been use to me giving her all the attention but after a while she brightened up and the two kids had a nice time.

I love this picture and thanks Sylvie for sending it to me. This one goes into the permanent collection!

Today I have two friends coming into town for the weekend. I have no room for them and they are staying in Costambar so I will probably stay up there with them tomorrow night and hang out with them there. Hasta Pronto!

Taco Tuesday and Easter Dinner/Silent Auction

The woman in the front is Meg or Megamania on DR1. She came to Taco Tuesday with her Hubby and another couple. Her friends were a bit fearful going on a dirt road full of potholes for a mile wondering where the hell they were going but they had a great time and I enjoyed meeting her and her crew! They hail from outside of Toronto and this was their first trip to the Dominican Republic and the North Coast.
We had a great big crowd this time considering the rainy weather with the storm moving in and out. We had been slow for the Holidays while people had other things going on so it was refreshing to see a larger group this week.

Yes, Niko the Commie was there and it of course is always great to see him and hang out with him. His take on this place cracks me up. I couldnt believe he told a couple from San Francisco that it was his first time to the Dominican Republic. I cocked my head to hear his explanation and I was just shaking my head and smiling. Niko has lived here for 8 years and never left after his first visit.

My question which remains unanswered is "Did you stay here to avoid the Gulag?" LOL

Niko and I operate a small real estate business here on the North Coast. Check out our website at http://www.sosua-cabarete.com While this business is fairly new I have been a licensed real estate broker since 1981 in NY State and have been an investor/developer/landlord and have done mortgages as an investor for even longer than that. Niko also has vast experience in Europe and the Dominican Republic although I don't know the time frames.

Between us we have a great network of information and if we don't have the answer we will know whom to call.

This lovely woman is an architect from San Francisco who along with her hubby who works at Ebay joined us last night. I was glad they made it and were also able to follow my perfect directions:) They have been here for 5 weeks and this was their last chance to attend a Taco Tuesday. Glad to have met you guys!

This is Camden Tom, Mary Lips, Doug Hicks and his lovely wife Linda who is an interior decorator.

When I first did this bit on the blog I was listening to Rubi 92.5 Fm and Rocket the DJ who also attended Taco Tuesday was speaking on the radio about meeting Doug. Doug is a retired NHL Hockey player and he said he was going to get him into the station for an interview. Cool to hear this as I was writing about it!

Most of the money from Escotts 6th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and 1st Annual Childrens Benefit Auction has been collected. Actually only one person hasn't paid as of this morning when I met with Robert to discuss a few things. While Robert and I don't see eye to eye on a few things I believe we are both invested in doing good things for the children of the North Coast of the Dominican Republic and possibly spreading out to the rest of the country in the future. DR1 is a great asset in promoting the raising of money for these purposes along with Rubi 92.5. If you find it strange that we work together on these things this is the reason why and I think we can do great things together. He just can't edit my blog anymore and I am a happy guy:)

We raised over $6500 US dollars at our first event which I consider a BIG amount for here yet a very small amount considering the potential of what we can do. I am looking to raise a minimum of 10,000 US dollars and hopefully a lot more at my next event on Easter Sunday. We have much more time to get this together than we did. A three person committee has been formed to discuss where the money both present and future should go. I heard some feedback and was very impressed with the thoughts already on the table. We will present more to you shortly and we will document what happens so you will know your help is going in the right direction.

Next week I am going to post the details of Escott's 6th Annual Easter Bash and Silent Auction Childrens Benefit we are going to have. This will be sponsored both by DR1 and Rubi 92.5 Fm which also happens to be the Radio Station of choice on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. You can also listen to it live on the internet by the way.

If you have items to donate or even wish to donate plain old money please email me with the details at Jazzpaging@yahoo.com and you will be included in our first promotions of this event and we will follow through promoting and including your business or your person. This can be a win/win situation for everyone that gets involved especially if you want to promote your business at the same time you are making a donation.

Together we can make a difference to the children of the North Coast of the Dominican Republic! Please get involved.

Hasta Pronto!

Interesting Trip Report

http://www.timberjay.com/current.php?article=2093 Check out this very interesting trip report I caught in a Minnesota Newspaper online. Puts into perfect words how I feel about the Dominican Republic! People have been commenting why the blog isn't updated. My charger on my laptop crapped out and my desktop has no USB port. I went to Dawns yesterday morning and did the Taco Tuesday post and her power went down for an extended period of time while they were switching generators and I lost the post. I will go back to her place later this morning and will post the updates. Sorry! Hasta Pronto!

This evening I had a pickup at the airport for one of my condos. Two Danish guys flew in from Amsterdam. Robert was also coming in on the same flight. Dawn called Martinair in Amsterdam to find out if the plane was on time and of course they said it was late so we pushed back leaving to the airport.
Dawn then gets a call from Mango Larry because Robert called him to call Dawn that the plane was actually early. Off we go running to the airport. After we get some Cell phone signal I called Robert on his cell phone to look out for my two Danes as I didn't want them to get uncomfortable not seeing me. We made it to the Airport in record time and outside waiting are my two Danes and NO ROBERT. Dawn calls him on the Cell phone and his lugguge didn't make the trip across the pond and he was filling out forms. Good thing as I may not have had room for his bags anyway:) Jeepeta was a little tight with 5 people. No worries we all got back to Sosua.

After getting the Condo Guests settled in Robert ran to the supermarket to buy some toiletries so he could shower. Dawn, Robert and I went to Baileys for something to eat, some drinks, some chat and a lot of laughs.

These are the gals that work the bar at Baileys where we Ate and Drank for a few hours. They are great looking gals which is always a plus when sitting down to hang out for a while in a bar. Itris always fun hearing Roberts stories when he travels. I don't believe every woman in England is fat no matter what he says! Tomorrow I hopefully have a real estate closing which I am doing for a friend.

Man I hope it goes well and the sale is completed. I would hate to have to call him up with bad news.

Friday I have another Condo Renter coming in from NY so off to the airport I go again. I am homeless again for another week!

Also on the same plane is a good friend of mine and a friend of his who I don't know but am anxious to meet. I was going to surprise Dawn because they are also friends and have hung out both in the DR and in NY but she was over at my condo this evening while waiting for Robert to get all buffed and fluffed and saw my phone messages on the table and guessed who it was. I had invited them over to Dawns Penthouse for Cocktails along with a few others and only told her 2 more are coming but I wasn't telling her who. Nosey Dawn ruined my surprise!

Thats all folks, time to go to sleep!

Hasta Pronto!

The picture is just a tease but coming soon to the blog is a guest bit being written about all the details of the New Sea Horse Ranch Golf Course. Construction is getting under way in March of this Year and it will be an awsome course from what I was able to see on their plans. I look forward to putting it up for your appreciation! As you have read before in this blog, Dori is opening up the Restaurant in Eddys Sports Bar which currently has the reputation of being the best sports bar in the whole Dominican Republic and is located on the North Coast in Sosua just down the street from Banco Reserva and Super Super Liquor Store. The Restaurant is opening up next week and I have been looking forward to this for as long as the deal between Eddy and Dori was made. This is your chance to give Dori some feedback folks. Tell him what you think of the menu and what you would like to see. Heck I would like to know what you want to see also!
Coming Soon to Escott's blog, hours and other details. This is like pulling teeth out of the guy folks, he actually thinks cleaning and installing equiptment is more important than keeping me up to speed with what is going on. Sheesh, what is this world coming to?

Food and fun in Cabareteland

Folks, this person is the infamous Tamborista otherwise known as Ian. We are neighbors for 3 weeks as he is staying in my building I haven't been in but will this coming week.
There are always people that post on a message board and you want to know a little more about them and put a face to the name but alas I had already met this fellow a few times over the years and no surprises. Nice fellow and nice to have him in a group of friends.
A Bunch of us (9-10) went to Ali's Surf Camp in Cabarete in the Dominican Republic last night for dinner and conversation.

As you can see in the below picture Tom and Mary did too much work yesterday on the Farm and looked pretty well knocked out by last night but they still showed up for some good food and great conversation.

Ian doesn't like to be photographed and thought I think he wouldn't make it into the blog but all of you that know me know "THAT AIN'T HAPPENING" on my watch! Too many people that read want to see the pictures of all the charactors!

In the back of this picture above is Dori. He is opening the Restaurant in Eddys Sports Bar next week. I already got emails from people wanting to go who are NOT even in the country now. I know I for one am anxiously awaiting the opening! You can never have enough good restaurants in Sosua!

Eddys Sports Bar is known as the Best Sports Bar in the entire Dominican Republic and will get your Sporting Event on a Screen if it is at all humanly Possible. He is set up with Wireless FREE Internet and always has beautiful Barmaids and Waitresses which he has become famous for "Eddys' Angels" which I can certainly vouch for.

Dori running the Restaurant and putting out the great food he is so well known for will make Eddys even more popular than it already is. So remember, if there is a Sporting event and you are in the DR Go to Eddys to enjoy it along with beautiful women, cold beer and now great FOOD!

Say hi To Doug Hicks who along with his lovely wife Linda are building a home here in Sosua and will eventually be living here and part of fabric of a great Expat Community already existing here on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

My Communist Buddy Niko was also in attendence but had to leave early for a appointment with some folks from Santo Domingo to discuss a new 140 Unit Condo Project on Kite Beach starting up soon. Look for details on his website in the next few weeks as the plans get firmed up and published.

That's it for now. I have to go to the airport to trade in my voucher for my Florida trip next month today before 11:59pm since my online reservation is on hold till then.

Hasta Pronto!

PS>Jackie, the type big enough for you now you blind SOB?
